After a difficult year for all of us, the light over the horizon is growing brighter every day as we continue to work to put the pandemic behind us. We would not be here if not for the care, compassion and generosity you showed all year for your colleagues, friends, family and patients. As we continue reuniting with our vaccinated family and friends, the need for financial assistance and health care resources remains for many of our team members, patients and those in the communities we serve.

You provide the lift

You are the reason our Above and Beyond campaigns are so successful year after year. Thanks to you and your generosity last year, more than $1.3 million in financial assistance was distributed from our COVID-19 Employee Assistance Fund to more than 3,000 of our fellow Baptist team members. Because of you, more than 6,600 grief sessions for children and adults were able to continue virtually in a year when the need was so great. You also helped provide COVID testing, treatment and vaccines to thousands of homeless individuals through our Baptist Operation Outreach mobile health care unit, and so much more.

Foundation Facts

Every year, we are excited and grateful to highlight our most important work. Throughout 2021, Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation made significant strides toward connecting and healing lives. The information below reflects how the generosity of our donors has driven our success in the past year.

Baptist Heart Institute Fund

Baptist Foundation provided four additional extra corporeal membrane, or ECMO, devices for the care and treatment of COVID-19 patients in the ICU. These devices saved the lives of countless patients at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, the only hospital the only area to offer ECMO treatment for COVID-19 during the pandemic's peak.
Friends of Nursing

Friends of Nursing is funded by employees, grateful patients and memorial gifts to provide financial assistance, continuing education and professional development opportunities to Baptist’s nurses. Last year the fund helped 65 nurses attend important nursing education conferences, workshops and review courses.

The fund also helped offset the cost of receiving professional certifications for nurses around the system, to help them expand their knowledge and capabilities, and enhance their career opportunities.
North Mississippi Internal Medicine Residency Program

Your generous contributions during our Above and Beyond campaign play a significant part in our ability to apply for and win grants and funds from other sources, including a grant of $749,999 to support Baptist North Mississippi’s Internal Medicine Residence Program that provides essential hands-on training, advanced education, and professional mentorships to future doctors.
Addiction Medicine

Your gift truly counts! Each year by demonstrating the impact of all our Baptist team members’ contributions and generosity, the Foundation is able to successfully apply for additional grants and funds from other sources, including a $200,000 Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant to develop a consortium of community organizations to address addiction problems in Tipton, Carroll and Obion counties in West Tennessee.
Baptist Operation Outreach

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to support Baptist Operation Outreach’s efforts as they worked with City of Memphis at the onset of pandemic to secure shelter for the homeless and provide virtual medical visits and courier prescriptions to numerous shelters. Baptist Operation Outreach also worked with Christ Community Health Service to provide access to COVID-19 vaccinations and assisted with testing and vaccines for street homeless, sheltered, and evicted families. Also secured a COVID-19 relief grant to provide PPE to the agencies and shelters that serve the homeless community.
Baptist Centers for Good Grief

The Centers for Good Grief provided more than 6,900 counseling sessions through Baptist’s grief centers in Collierville and Memphis, TN and Jonesboro, AR.
Baptist Reynolds Hospice House

The Reynolds Hospice House served 211 patients and families when care and love were needed most. Since opening in 2010, the Hospice House has been the final home for more than 2,681 patients.
Employee Emergency Assistance Fund

More than $24,000 was distributed to assist 285 Baptist team members at various entities throughout the system in 2021.
Patient Assistance

We assisted nearly 250 discharged patients who needed financial assistance for medicines, home medical devices, transportation and other necessities after returning home from the hospital.
Baptist Health Sciences University

The University awarded more than 240 scholarships were awarded to students in various degrees of study.
