Education Center & Libraries: Baptist Memphis
Baptist Memphis Education Center
This facility offers colleagues, physicians and the community more than 20,000 square feet of conference and classroom space ideally suited to health care education and professional development, as well as community events.
The facility’s centerpiece is the Dr. H. Edward Garrett Sr. Auditorium, named in honor of the surgeon who performed the world’s first successful coronary artery bypass graft in 1964.
The Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation received generous contributions for the $7 million center, including the contribution from Mrs. Christine Garrett Fallis and her family. Dr. H. Edward Garrett Jr., son of Dr. Garrett Sr. and Mrs. Fallis, is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon on staff at Baptist.

About Maury W. Bronstein
Maury Bronstein, M.D., has provided exemplary patient care for Mid-Southerners for almost half a century. During his distinguished 50-year career at Baptist, specializing in internal medicine and cardiology, Bronstein has served as Medical Staff president, Chief of Staff and chairman of the department of medicine at Baptist Memorial Hospital; president of the Memphis Academy of Internal Medicine and president of the Memphis Heart Association. In 1998, the Baptist East Medical Library was renamed the Maury W. Bronstein Health Sciences Library after a prominent philanthropist and close friend, Avron Fogelman, suffered a serious illness and was hospitalized at Baptist East, where Bronstein cared for him. Fogelman was so impressed that he made a gift to the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation to rename the hospital's library after his friend and physician.
