Conveniently located right off I-55 just south of Memphis, TN, Baptist DeSoto’s level-three trauma center emergency department treats more than 65,000 patients each year from DeSoto county and surrounding areas, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. And as North Mississippi’s population continues to grow, so do we. We’ve updated and expanded our ER with 55 beds to provide additional patient care areas, more seating in our waiting room, and three additional triage rooms to help reduce wait time for arriving patients. We have also streamlined our admissions processes to decrease the time a patient has to wait before being seen by our medical team. Baptist DeSoto’s emergency department is staffed with experienced, board-certified doctors, specialists, nurses and clinicians to take care of children, adults and elderly patients.
The Obstetrics ER
In 2018, Baptist DeSoto opened our first emergency department dedicated to expectant mothers. Our obstetrics emergency room in our Women’s Pavilion is staffed around the clock with board-certified OB/GYN doctors to care for women and give them added reassurance when something doesn’t feel right. You can count on us to provide immediate care for pregnancy or post-partum related emergencies until your OB/GYN can arrive or, if needed, administer complete care.
Advanced Cardiovascular ER Services
Baptist DeSoto’s emergency department also offers advanced cardiovascular care and services with Stern Cardiovascular doctors and specialists. Part of one of the largest emergency departments in North Mississippi, our comprehensive heart program and emergency services are accredited by the American College of Cardiology as a chest pain treatment center. Our team of experts performs life-saving interventions and procedures to treat blockages in the heart in fewer minutes than the national average.

An Accredited Comprehensive Heart Program
Baptist is leading the way for better heart care in Mississippi with innovative practices and technology. And now, we’re accredited by the American College of Cardiology for chest pain, heart failure and cardiac cath lab.
Earning the ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation means we have proven exceptional competency and compassion in treating patients with heart attack symptoms. We have streamlined our processes from admission to evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, as well as enhanced patient-focused services including appropriate post-discharge care and recommendations and assistance in patient lifestyle changes.
The ACC Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation is based on a rigorous onsite evaluation of our read team's ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who come to the cardiac cath lab. Our processes are designed to ensure quality and patient safety, including infection control, radiation safety, universal protocol, and enhanced patient communication, patient family communication, discharge instructions and follow-up information.
The ACC Heart Failure Accreditation recognizes our read team’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with heart failure through pre-hospital care, early stabilization, acute care, transitional care, clinical quality measures and more.

Know Your HeartScore™
If you smoke or have diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or a family history of coronary artery disease, you could be at risk for heart disease. Baptist’s HeartScore™ test is a simple, 10-minute scan that can detect heart disease before symptoms even occur. It’s quick, it’s painless, and it could save your life.
Call 662-772-3144 to schedule your HeartScore™ screening.Cardiac catheterization is a common procedure that allows doctors to open up arteries and detect potential heart issues. Traditionally, this procedure is performed via the femoral artery near the groin and can be very painful. We offer an alternative: Radial artery cardiac catheterization, performed through the radial artery at the wrist, is much more comfortable and often allows patients to leave the hospital on the day they have the procedure.
Other heart and vascular programs at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto include aneurysm repair, angioplasty stenting, cardiopulmonary, carotid bypass, echo, and peripheral vascular.

We are proud to now have therapists trained in Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training, a new and innovative way to safely and quickly reduce recovery time. In BFR training, a cuff is placed around the arm or leg in order to partially (up to 80%) block the blood flow to the limb. This restricts the amount of oxygen being delivered to the muscles and creates a physiological environment where a lighter weight induces the same muscular response as a heavy weight. When BFR training is used with strength training exercises, it allows for a more rapid increase in muscle size and strength, which can decrease the length of recovery time.
Outpatient Rehabilitation hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Please call 662-772-2120 for more information or to schedule an appointment. The address is 401 Southcrest Circle, Suite 101, Southaven, MS.
